PostSubject: [SGST] Ronin Application Form   Wed Sep 03, 2008 7:34 pm

I think it's only proper that we start screening new members before they can join indefinitely.

We could invite them to try ronin for 3 days, within those 3 days they have to register to in forums plus fill out application form. Then elders (let's give them a job lol) judge whether or not we should keep or kick them off the guild. If one elder disagrees, then player gets kicked, no objections. I think Elders are there to help with decisions in guild, as well as defend guild honor.

If they fail to register in forums, it's automatic kick.

Exceptions are: Mule chars and current active members.

WTH you guys will answer the questionaire anyways.

Typical application form would be:

Name:

Current Jobs over 30 and Levels:

Other Chars/Alts:

Previous Guilds Joined:

Why did you leave your last guild?

Why do you want to join Ronin?

What can you offer Ronin guild members (Plvling, elder material hunting, elder quests, etc)

Do you roleplay ( answer yes or no, not really a requirement for guild acceptance, but since there are roleplayers in the guild we might as well lump these crazies together)

In less than 100 words, explain why we should accept your application?

Who recommended you?

Add more questions if you like. . .

I for one agree 110% with this suggestion. I've felt for awhile that we shouldn't just have random adds to the guild, we need people who are going to mesh well with the mix we already have.

This is a bad idea. simply because favoritism will become a large part of the selection process. If, by chance, favoritism isn't a large factor, and someone decides they don't like the fact that they weren't picked, they will accuse Ronin of adding only their friends ((which is what most guilds do anyways but, it'll bring a negative rep)).

This is a good idea. I like this idea. I don't, however like this idea:

This gives too much room for personal bias, which goes a long way in making decisions but, is not all we need for membership decisions. It gives too much power to personal persuasion. Now, if it were a 2/3 or majority Vote for kick, that's different. Yes, Elders are a very important factor of a guild. Elders are not, however, so important as to be the sole judge upon any one persons' membership. ((Ex. Say an Elder gets into a fight with a member, someone says some nasty things, and the Elder gets pissy and kicks them. That member was the #1 contributor of guild fame in the members section. We just lost a contributor because of personal grudges. Or, let's show this another way: Same situation. Only, this time, the booting Elder is one that walked in on the tail end of the situation, sees the nasty remarks, and boots the member for saying those things. The Elder in the fight doesn't think the member should be booted; that it was a fight, heat of the moment, things get said, they get thought over, etc. etc. With this rule in place, the booting stands and the Booting elder gets made to look like a boatrd for not thinking the thing through or talking to both parties before they booted.))

The 3 day trial is something I would definitely do though. It's something I've tried to enforce in most of the guilds I've been in. It's a better screening process. Don't have them register to the forum within the 3 days though. That just gives the Forum admins more work to do by having to confirm the account then delete it. Give them things to do. Say they have to get 4 - 6 Guild fame for the guild within 3 days. That way, they can show dedication to the guild and we can see how dedicated they will/possibly be. Then, put them on a "probationary period" where they have to make a certain amount of guild fame for the guild again within that time period or we have to let them go.

Tis just my opinion though.

@ Ro3, I know its kinda harsh, I think the voting thing also needs to be somewhat changed. I kinda adopted this application from a previous game I played. We often sent spies to other guilds, and were of course were being sent some too. Our guild was sorta like genesis/brimstone, spies were necessary to find out everyone's levels, weapon/armor upgrades and skill upgrades to find out some kind of strategy on which members we focus on killing first during raids and sieges. Since that sorta thing is not even implemented in this game, I think its unnecessary.

After speaking to a few of our members, and considering how this game works, I think I'll rework this app. We want to remain as friendly and as open as possible to the new members. The voting thing is kinda harsh. If things go awry, we can always try fixing things.

You do know that once the app has been set, everyone has to fill it up.

And if You knew our elders, you knew they wouldn't act in such a biased and unfair manner, unless that person did something that was worthy of being kicked from the guild.

And really, from my experience thus far, all of us as elder's have had the same mindset on people that should and shouldn't go. Always.

Also, when criticizing someone else's ideas, you should do it in a slightly better manner.

Such as, "I understand what you're trying to do with the whole equality thing, but do you really think older members should need to fill out the application?"

Sorry for being unclear, a lot of things happened as I was replying to this post last night.

I wanted the app to be there simply because there are still people I do not know, and I'm pretty sure not a lot of us actually know a lot about each other. It's not going to be a tirade of questions from 1-50, its going to be something simple and has 10~15 easily answerable questions. "Getting to know you questions" like favorite color, favorite TV show/movie, hobbies and past time besides DoMO. Simple things that people might have in common so it could be some sort of basis of associating one's self to others, and hopefully some way of connecting people to friends. I know it seems childish, but with this app I hope people can find something in common with.

Angel and Peach just quit the guild last night, I'm wondering if there will be others that would be leaving when I log on tonight. If you do leave, hopefully you find contentment elsewhere.

The forums have become a spam fest for drama. Ill clean up things, if you want a topic saved guys, copy it and pm me what it is and why you want to keep it. Ill mark threads that im deleting with a # ahead of time. To those of you reading this, make it easy on me, delete anything that is slightly rude or something that is directed to an issue that has already been solved, thanks.

Oh, and good idea Uzzi. I can make a quiz website if you wish.

The criticism is only as bad as the one being criticized takes it.

The way I said it is the way it made the most sense to me. If he had trouble following that, he should have said something.

If you wish to edit out my opinions, then I'll remove my opinions, as well as myself, from opportunity to present them.
